Today I found out about a new competition that Canon are running it is called The Assignment, and prizes range from canon goodies to trips to euro 2008 and 4 prizes for the winners which will involve been able to go on a photo assignment along with a professional photographer.
The Assignment entries will be judged both by us the canon users and a panel lead by award-winning photographer Vicki Couchman.
I am sure a good few of the folk that read this (as in fellow photobloggers) will jump at this opportunity to enter, there are 4 categories that you can enter portrait, macro, landscapes, and sports, and I know we all have oodles of those sorts of shots between us, although thats not to say that it is bound only to photobloggers if you have an image you love enter it, even if you don’t have any images there are some valuable photographic tutorials on the site too.
So what are you waiting for, register now at Canons pretty swishy site and good luck.
UPDATE - You can only enter one picture so choose your category and image carefully.
UPDATE 2 - Donncha has also pointed out that in the t+c’s part 4 talk about the fact that you lose the rights to that image which may well affect some photographers opinions on entering.

So what photo are you entering?
Well Will I was hoping I could get 1 image per category so started off with the macro one for some weird reason and entered this jelly baby shot.
I would have loved if there was an abstract section as I have some nice ones I would have loved to have entered.
Just read the small print first. They may claim all rights to your photo, whether you win or not.
Oh, what’s that Twitter widget? I got a shock to see my name and avatar over there!
Donncha I assumed that was if you won, after all the winners photos (and/or finalists) will be shown somewhere.
I entered this mother of the bride in the portrait section.
I suppose I might need to get my hands on a model release form if I do well.
I think they may well be thinking of using the images in adverts etc, if my memory from this morning is correct.
In relation to the twitter thing Donncha check this page out and just recode it a bit to suit your template, its quite a handy little thing. Although I did find the page that the “do you follow me” button brought you to did not exist so change that also.
You should take a look at section 4 of the terms and conditions - http://ta.canon-europe.com/?pg=tc&cc=gb&lc=en
At first reading it looked ok, but this bit here means Canon and it’s sponsors can use your photo for many usages:
“Canon’s and its affiliates support of the photography and imaging industry and community, including but not limited through possible events (including exhibitions and corporate events), presentations, making-of movies, video-clips and publications (including Internet and press publications).”
I really should look closely at those T+C’s in future. I take it you aint gonna enter then Donncha?
BTW Will what a great expression you captured there.
Will - you should definitely get a model release form, and (if you were really worried) get permission from the priest at that church. Even if you don’t do well your image might be used in advertising..
Nope, won’t be entering! The whole rights grab thing has soured my view of all these competitions unfortunately. Thanks for the twitter badge link!

thanks,
