...

Ok it’s ttqt and rather then ask why you have not voted for me in the shorty awards I decided to ask something else, so out of the people You follow that you have not met who would you do anything to meet and your reasons why?

Its a good way of finding people to follow for everyone.

For me I can’t wait to meet PatPhelan he is one dude I really admire and also Donncha a fellow photoblogger!
Foreign wise JimConnolly (even though he claims Irish blood runs through him) for a beer and LolaGrrl for Oreos. There are so many others but these guys have made an impact on my twittering that I have yet to meet!

ciaran_o_kelly - @Dostoyevsky without a doubt. He’s a real live wire. On a more serious note, I enjoy twitter, blogging etc but fear that meetings with people encountered online would be awkward even though online encounters are sufficient for building a good sense of their intelligence, wit & whatever you’re having.

Laura said i’d love to meet @stephenfry loved him for years on tv adore his podgrams and he’s a fan of open source, and he rocks oh and @stephenfry was in bones one of my favourite tv shows for a stint.

damienmulley - @NiallHarbison - though will finally meet him this weekend. After that it’d be @jowyang I’d like to meet.

darraghdoyle - I think ppl like @jimconnolly, @emailcopywriter, @laughingsquid, @ihatemornings and @innocentdrinks would top my list not sure I’d do “anything” to meet them tho. i guess I’ve met the majority of those I follow on Twitter.

lexia - Easy, @jobsworth

icedcoffee - hello john. not sure if i’d like to meet you though… ;) I more want to have actual conversations with some of the people that i have met, as i’ve met quite a few people I follow. @donncha was on my list too for quite a while, ticked off the list in the summer.

grannymar - OK, here I go: @Donncha, @Trust Tommy, @Distant Rambler & @ellybabes whoever she is!

joescanlon - @patphelan @garyvee @niallharbison @trusttommy @grannymar and prob many others. Hopefully I won’t go too mad - so I won’t be : “hi I’m Joe Scanlon nice to meet you- good night and thanks.

jkeyes - I’m with @lexia on this one @jobsworth, and my other predictable pick would be @stephenfry. Wouldn’t do anything though, they’d have to come to meet me ;) Lots of Irish I haven’t met yet, hope to sort that out sooner rather than later.

Araldia - you of course!! We have known each other, what 8 years?

troycorley - Like to meet @chrisbrogan Thoughtful, sharing, wants to improve not compete, community oriented, lets have coffee!

AxiomPR - Gary Vaynerchuk. Energizing, exciting, and pushes people out of their comfort zones.

whitespider1066 - Who I follow and most like to meet? any of the ones that would like to be a future Mrs Christie ^_^ Seriously it would have to be @JimConnolly he seems cool & not full of his own hype. A few ‘elite’ seem so full of themselves & seem to live in this bubble world far from reality

anhonestwriter - @Miragi is the person I follow I haven’t met and would you do anything to meet because we would be great friends.

EmrysTetu - Would most want to meet @TheBloggess b/c she cracks me up and I am always trying to take myself/everything else less seriously.

Donncha - So that’s why you and @grannymar mentioned me. It’s mutual! No time to tweet these days :(

goodonskis - My answer TTQT, would love to meet @stephenfry & you someday! :-)

I would like everyone who took part tonight and to JimConnolly for helping me out tonight with retweeting the question. Thank you so much to all of his followers for contributing, its people like you that make twitter so worthwhile for me.

Shorty Awards

Shorty Awards

So many times I have mentioned Twitter here and here I go again, The Shorty Awards nomination process has begun and I am canvasing for your vote. The Shorty Awards honor the world’s top Twitterers. You can nominate as many people for as many categories as you’d like until midnight December 31st. I would love to be able to use this as a little experiment to see if a sound engineer with a love of twitter can get through the nominations round, through the power of my social network and the web that stems from it.

So if you feel I deserve a nomination or want to help me along with this experiment I would love you to vote.

Voting is simple send a tweet similar to this: @shortyawards I nominate @mcawilliams in category #personal because… and come up with a reason. Please do give a reason it does make the difference on whether the vote counts or not.

Voting can also be done on the Shorty Awards webpage

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this and remember you only have until the 31st to get the votes in!

TTQT - Twitter and Work?

Posted by McAWilliams under Written
...

Tuesday Twitter Question Time this week was a first me, During the week I recieved a direst message through Twitter asking if it would be possible to help this person out by asking a question which would help them with their finals which are happening at the end of the week. I was, even though my Twitter personality may not have you believe it, delighted to be able to help this person out and I am thrilled so many of you took part hopefully this will help @gavreilly out in his finals and best of luck to him!

I am hoping I interpreted his question correctly “Since I have been so quiet it proves to me that Twitter has nothing to do with my job! But is Twitter beneficial to yours? Also does your employer approve you using it?”

joescanlon - it’s certainly beneficial on getting to connect with lots of new (and some old) people - it can become very addictive. It doesn’t have any major impact on work - sits on the side may comment every so often- I use more so on eves and weekends

PixieVonDust - Twitter is a pretty good edition to my job but the operations manager tells me off if I tweet to much. Twitter is another news source and way of contacting peeps for interviews but I don’t always use it for that purpose. :0

davymac - Being a ‘Lone Ranger’ yes Twitter is beneficial to my job - and yes, the Boss approves ;-) But I’d sack anyone caught using Twitter!!! ;-) Actually on a more serious note there’s been some good web articles on why staff are happier with a fix of ‘web’ in work hours

grannymar - I am the boss and I approve! Most of my years of employment were before pcs we used pens and pencils, when we did have pcs folk thought they were about to explode or bite them. Seriously Twitter is both good and bad. News as it happens and answers to questions and help. Sports blow by blow is a bore!

damienmulley - Twitter has given me new friends, new business contacts and a HUGE amount of insights and breaking news.

lexia - Met loads of interesting people, widened my horizons, questioned my beliefs etc. Some people at work know, yes. And made friends too :D

loris_sl - I work by myself (self employed I guess) and Twitter brings me fun and relax. It improved my working life :)

Araldia - Well I am not employed atm, but I am sure that when the band gets off the ground, my twitter faithful will spread the word lol

thedogsdish - Twitter allows me 2 meet like minded peeps worldwide & potential clients both, vast resource center LIVE & I work 4 myself

Dotwebs - self-employed and don’t know yet as I’ve only just started

eolai - I’m self-employed & I approve of my use of Twitter: It has given me contacts, customers, friends, resources, & blurred them all

cloudsteph - Yes benefits my work-very helpful web community on Twitter, making me aware of some excellent Irish talent thats out there too.

jkeyes - Twitter is slightly beneficial to my job, my employer doesn’t approve or disapprove as I currently have no employer!

elfinamsterdam - hmm… it doesn’t really, and I’d say if he knew he wouldn’t be impressed. I wish it did benefit as I’d love to be on more, the only way you could interpret as a benefit is it keeps me sane as I have people to chat to from time to time so that’s good

patphelan - ask @chriskennedy he works for me, not a problem

ChrisKennedy - 2 answer the question, Twitter has benefitted my job on occasion, @patphelan actually got me onto twitter lol

antgalvin - I am the boss (ha!) Vital for work, its an inspiration.

iCork - Yes & Yes. Twitter expands your knowledge base and great way of making contacts.

johnpeavoy - Twitter really enhances my networking ability John. I’ve made quite a few new friends, and met some very interesting people. And I have been able to learn lots of strategic stuff for my job, which positions me well to better sell our products. Finally, yes, the Boss does know but doesn’t really understand ;-) And doesn’t care too much tbh. Results what matters.

ciaran_o_kelly - I can imagine it being used in good ways in higher ed a la @stephenkinsella, though my own employer is wary of the www, sadly.

darraghdoyle - Twitter for me is a conversation continuer. The equivalent of walking down a street and seeing someone you remember you wanted to talk to or ask something. It is my cool things finder, my news source and my entertainment channel for the day.

bailleres - yes it does, as i am interested in people in general…and i am unemployed at the moment–but my job is what i make it.

ptanham - I use RSS feeds of twitter search terms and find it very useful for honest feedback on products & services I manage in work, It gives me the ability to hear what customers say about our products to their friends, which is beyond priceless.

raptureponies -I’ve been trying to make people at work twitter, but no one seems interested/understands it!Boo urns, cause i think it’d be good!

enormous - i blog for work @iia. Boss approves of course :-) As @nialllarkin said to me last week T is great for networking

sineadcochrane - It’s not blocked in work, so I use it, probably a bit too much, but being alone in the office all day will do that to a girl.

markhamnolan - I am my own boss. I think the fact that I Tweet fucking rocks. I am promoting myself to president-for-life on that basis.

Obviously with a work related question some people direct messaged answers to me and because of this shall remain anonymous

Twitter doesn’t currently benefit my job, though some of the brass are on Twitter -so it’s no secret that I use it at work.

I find it more useful for finding out about new technology. Not allowed use it at work. Has no impact on my job.

So thanks again to everyone for taking part, it was a great question that was put forward and hopefully it will give Gav some food for thought and best of luck on Friday.
