When grandad strikes back.

Feck him anyhow I was chatting to him through the new facebook chat thingy we were both virgins to it but it was highly enjoyable, and he goes and memes me. Cheers for that.

Basically I have to describe myself in 6 words.

1. Tall, very feckin tall 6 foot 4 inches to be exact.
2. Geeky, I love technology and dabbling in how I can break it why do you think I changed the layout, because of you guys, nah, but because I got bored of the look and wanted to do some coding again.
3. Selfish, or so my good wife keeps telling me (she is right you know).
4. Grumpy, well in work anyhow I am not one to be crossed.
5. Tired, it comes with old age.
6. Pessimistic, I generally try to find faults with everything and look for the bad things, probably because I am so grumpy and geeky.

So there you go Grandad, now I have to nominate some folk to do the same.

So I pick my new best twitter buddy Alexia, Fustar, Ryan at glassyalley, and lastly the girl that introduced the word Meme to me Caitriona.

A great bit of media buying

Posted by McAWilliams under Written
...

Well I was just flicking through the channels on tv and watched the end of Crimecall on RTE, the Irish equivalent of Crime Watch UK. What followed had me in stitches laughing.

As you are aware I plan on talking about things that interest me in life, because of my job, advertising is one such thing. Crimecall ended with a report about women been mugged in Ranelagh and what a great response the reconstruction had recieved but what immediately followed this program after the credits had rolled, was an advert for one of the most anticipated games this year Grand Theft Auto IV. This game is all about the sorts of things the previous program was trying to solve, I just found it hilarious

Congrats to the media buyers in getting such a clever placing of the advert, and yes I am in line on the 28th/29th to purchase this game its looks amazing.

Thanks to Damien for the fluffy link also.

Canon - The Assignment

Posted by McAWilliams under Written
...

canon assignment Today I found out about a new competition that Canon are running it is called The Assignment, and prizes range from canon goodies to trips to euro 2008 and 4 prizes for the winners which will involve been able to go on a photo assignment along with a professional photographer.

The Assignment entries will be judged both by us the canon users and a panel lead by award-winning photographer Vicki Couchman.

I am sure a good few of the folk that read this (as in fellow photobloggers) will jump at this opportunity to enter, there are 4 categories that you can enter portrait, macro, landscapes, and sports, and I know we all have oodles of those sorts of shots between us, although thats not to say that it is bound only to photobloggers if you have an image you love enter it, even if you don’t have any images there are some valuable photographic tutorials on the site too.

So what are you waiting for, register now at Canons pretty swishy site and good luck.

UPDATE - You can only enter one picture so choose your category and image carefully.
UPDATE 2 - Donncha has also pointed out that in the t+c’s part 4 talk about the fact that you lose the rights to that image which may well affect some photographers opinions on entering.

O2 and the iPhone rip off gets even better

Posted by McAWilliams under Written
...

Today I did the unthinkable I read the Irish Times Business section, bored in work, dont ask, anyhow there on page 8 in a little corner of the page was an article about the iPhone.

Now as everyone I know, knows, I really really wanted to get an iPhone, but alas O2 Ireland are acting the greedy feckers. I posted about this on for nine pounds in my other guise and things just aint getting any better!

Back to the business section, O2 in the UK have decided to reduce the cost of the 8gb iPhone by £100 so now it only costs £169 or €209 compared to the €399 euro that O2 Ireland want.

Will they reduce the price to match? according to the paper, O2 Ireland have no plans for a similar cut.

Wankers.

Version 7 has arrived… well sort off arrived

Posted by McAWilliams under Written
...

Welcome back to McAWilliams.com and its new look, this is version 7 of what started as just a plain old personal webpage, which evolved into a flash coded site, which then moved on to my first encounter of css, then went swiftly on to blogging on Moveabletype, and more recently blogging on Wordpress.

I will have been blogging for 3 years on the 19th of April and those three years have been solely based on Photoblogging. I love photography but I also love blogging and recently I have found out that I enjoy writing too. So I have decided that the new site will still remain a photoblog but will also have some written posts from yours truly aswell.

The site is by no means complete and I shall be tinkering in the background with other ideas I have in mind, most pressing is the darkroom feature I had in Version 6 which displayed a thumbnail mosaic of images I had put up. I dunno weather this will now work if I am typing up stuff now but I am going to check it out anyhow.

Please do let me know what you all think of this new layout is it easy to get around, do you like the colours etc etc. all opinions would be well appreciated.
